IMASS Group are an occupational health and safety services provider in the UK. Auxilion worked with IMASS Group to transform their delivery of both back-office systems and its line of business application by moving these services to Microsoft Azure & Office 365.

Client
IMASS Group deliver industrial, medical and safety services to clients of all sizes and provide appropriate cost effective occupational health and safety solutions to support their clients in attaining a productive, efficient and performance focused workforce.

In response to the change in the wider industry IMASS Group have decided to adopt a Mobile First, Cloud First strategy to enable the business to scale dynamically and provide business continuity for the future.

The Challenge
The main drivers behind this change are the need for scalability and reliability for both back-office systems and the main line of business application. The IMASS line of business applications were hosted at a third party datacenter, this platform was deemed as ‘at risk’ due to not being configured for high-availability or resiliency. The back-office systems were hosted within IMASS Group’s Head Quarters and were similarly viewed as at risk with no resilience or high-availability. Business continuity concerns, linked to the availability issues needed to be addressed as their customer requirements are for the service to be available 24x7x365. This meant that IMASS Group required a secure, highly available and stable environment whilst minimising costs and administrative overhead to maintain these systems and Auxilion were engaged to help develop a solution.

The Solution
To transform IMASS Group’s delivery of both back-office systems and its line of business application Auxilion proposed moving these services to Microsoft Azure & Office 365. Working closely with the team at IMASS Group Auxilion designed and implemented the migration of productivity services to Microsoft Office 365 and line of business applications into Microsoft Azure.

To allow for the delivery of an application service that will be both flexible and scalable IMASS Group migrated its existing application and back-office systems to the Microsoft Cloud. This was accomplished using a transitional approach structured into two phases.

Phase 1 Migration to Microsoft Azure – The on-premises infrastructure was extended into Microsoft Azure to create a Hybrid cloud platform. Identity services and line of business applications migrated onto IaaS hosted virtual machines.

Phase 2 Migration to Office 365 – Creation & configuration of IMASS Groups Microsoft Office 365 tenancy and migration of data and users. Adoption of SaaS solutions within the group enabling users to collaborate more efficiently.

The Benefits

The benefits, which were evident almost instantly included:

 A flexible & scalable platform on Azure
 24x7 managed service of Azure infrastructure
 Regulatory compliance with Microsoft Azure certifications
 Enhanced business continuity for line of business applications
 Improved productivity and user collaboration
 A Shift from CAPEX to OPEX
