System Administrator

Dublin or Cork System Administrator
System Administrator required to join the Infrastructure Support team. In this position you will be responsible for enhancing and leading the execution of our client’s technical vision. Candidates must be hands-on monitoring and managing the day-to-day engineering and management of the infrastructure, as well as architect and scale current cloud infrastructure to meet the business strategic goals. o Proactively create, monitor, and report metrics across to drive focus, priorities, and smart decision-making and ensure 24x7x365 operational effectiveness and efficiency. o Maintain, enhance, and enforce standard operating procedures around crisis management, keeping the client experience at the forefront of all decisions. Assisting the engineering and architecture of cloud infrastructure, driving the conversation as to how to architect and scale technology in support of growth strategy. Work with a high-performing team, focused on client experience, precision, and data-driven decisions. Positively drive client experience and value in a tangible manner



·   Day-to-day Support

  • Provide onsite 3rd level support to the service desk and onsite engineers to enable successful resolution of infrastructure related incidents.

·   Problem Management

  • Problem and opportunity identification
  • Root cause analysis for escalated incidents, with a view to minimising both the frequency of specific incidents but also their resolution time
  • Apply major incident process. Complete major incident reports when requested.

·   Ongoing Maintenance (Duties include but not limited to)

  • Certificate management / Checking license expiries / cert expiries
  • Day to day monitoring of VMWARE
  • Maintain software licenses and maintenance for any antivirus and web filtering administration and monitoring software procured by Client
  • Maintain and troubleshoot backup infrastructure to ensure successful completion of nightly, weekly and monthly scheduled jobs
  • Day to day monitoring of backups and where a backup has failed, identify root cause and fix
  • Confirm capacity of environment and take action where threshold breach is predicted (e.g. disk space, CPU usage etc.)
  • Amend job schedules (in accordance with Client change policy)
  • Assessment of new technology including hardware and software
  • Ensure maintenance & support contracts with third party vendors are kept up to date including engagement with the Client Procurement team to procure new hardware and software
  • Liaising with 3rd party support Vendor to package new applications, test new feature releases, apply security updates to Servers, etc.



·   Project Support

  • During infrastructure projects there will be requirements from the 3rd level support engineer to support the project team. Project support is expected to be between 20% and 40% of resource effort (this may vary based on Clients needs)


·   Disaster recovery / Business Continuity (Duties include but not limited to)

o   Execute disaster recovery strategy during Client’s DR testing, as required

    • Update existing disaster recovery strategy in accordance with Client’s DR review
  • Make recommendations for improvement disaster recovery processes
  • Create run book for DR testing or DR activation
  • Execute disaster recovery strategy during real DR event including liaising with third parties where required.


  • Knowledge Management
    • The Level 3 support engineer will be responsible for maintenance of the Knowledge base for Level 3 support services. The Knowledge base will be stored on the Customer’s infrastructure or within the ITSM solution.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as MCSA, SCCM, Citrix CCA, VMWare VCP
  • Minimum 8 years in information technology (min of 5 years Sys Admin, or 10 years in IT)
  • Experience supporting infrastructure in an end-user environment required (Dell, HPE, IBM)
  • Experience with setting up and maintaining infrastructure, supporting high availability and redundant solutions in a business-critical environment.
  • Excellent communicator and all-round people person.
